I'm a healthy and busy 47 year old who recently found out that my Aortic and Mitral valves are failing and will need replaced. The failure is due to childhood cancer (chemo and radiation therapy) that I underwent 30 years ago. I am in the moderate stages at this point and do not yet know when I will have to have these valves replaced. I feel blessed to find out early with time to prepare, but am still pretty overwhelmed by the whole idea and process. It is confusing and scary not having more information, but I am trying to practice patience and trust the medical professionals. At this time, I am looking to gain as much knowledge as I can about how best to keep my body as healthy as possible to help decrease recovery time and what is to come. I welcome any suggestions or advice as I start this journey.
