I am 63 years old and have had a heart murmur since I was a teenager. I had a mild heart attack in 1999 which then put me under the care of a cardiologist. He tested me thoroughly and I was diagnosed with moderate aortic stenosis and put on a program of regular echo cardiograms to monitor it. There was no change with the stenosis until two years ago when it progressed to 1.2 cm2. Another test late last year was 0.8 cm2 and was classified as severe. Fortunately I was experiencing no symptoms so I was able to persuade my doctor to allow me to winter in Florida and have the surgery in the spring. I am scheduled for the angiogram on April 16th to map the heart and will have the surgery soon after. Consultation with surgeon on April 30th. Pre-op on May 5th. Surgery by Dr. Yves LeClerc was done on May 31, 2012 using a St. Jude mechanical valve with a double bypass at St Mary's Hospital, Kitchener, ON, Canada
