About Me (In My Own Words)
In the fall of 2009 I decided to join a health spa. After a couple of tests, I was told that I needed to see a cardiologist asap.
On my first visit, the cardiologist said that my aortic valve would need to be replaced sometime in the future. He said it could be six months or 10 years. I left the office feeling optimistic that I was fine for a long time. One year later, he was sending me to a surgeon.
I decided to get a second opinion. The second cardiologist said I was ok but to see him in six months which would be November, 2011. I was convinced that exercise would help my condition so I exercised seven days a week, two with a trainer. I knew when I returned to the cardiologist that he would say that I was in great shape and good for another six months. I was in shock when the cardiologist said that I needed surgery now. Then I started questioning whether the exercise had worsened my condition.
I am scheduled for surgery on March 5, 2012 with Dr. Scott Andrews at Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte, NC.
