About Me (In My Own Words)
I was diagnosed with endocarditis at the end of March 2022, stayed in the hospital until 17.05.2022.
One evening at the end of March 2022, I started feeling ill, symptoms were similar to those of a regular cold. I stayed in bed for over a week, blaming my state on Covid. By then my temperature was around 40C and it was not going down. My partner took me to a local emergency room, where I tested negative for COVID. I was given some medication which I took upon returning home. By the evening, my situation got a lot worse. I could not speak clearly or walk. I was sliding down the stairs to get to the toilet. This time, my partner took me to an another emergency room at a local hospital where initially I was diagnosed with paralysis of my left side. I spent a few days in the local hospital and then I was taken to a hospital in Malaga where I spent a few good weeks. I was told I had endocarditis and because I have HHT( one of the symptoms is frequent nose bleeds) , I was advised to go for a biological valve instead of mechanical one ( the blood thinners are a risk for me) which I obviously did.
My surgery was on the 5th of May of 2022. It took me a long time to accept and come to terms with what has happened to me -having endocarditis and therefore a new valve at the age of 41.
