About Me (In My Own Words)
Dr. LaVergne (my cardiologist) and I have been watching my Mitral Valve for several years since my triple by-pass and Aortic Valve replacement 10 years ago October 8th. Recently, after several bouts with fluid retention (including one on Joan and I's 30th aviversary Alaska Cruise) and my latest round of test, Dr. LaVernge said that my stenosis was severe enough to have my Mitral Valve replaced. Becuase of the risk associated with a 2nd heart surgery, Dr. LaVergne would like to put off having surgery as long as we can control my fluid retention. He put me on Lasix (a fluid pill) that keeps me busy in the mornings but has helped a lot. I will have my surgery at St. Lukes Hospital. I have been asking what I can do to prepare. The first thing that St. Lukes suggest is to get my "support group" ready. I know from having my first surgery that having a good support group is a "LIFE SAVER".
