About Me (In My Own Words)
Diagnosed around 10 years old with Bicuspid Aortic Valve; I had yearly checkups but led an active normal life with no restrictions. In November of 2018 at the age of 51 I was diagnosed with severe stenosis, and spring of 2019 I started to have symptoms (dizziness, fatigue). I was then referred to cardiac surgeon Dr Anderson in Raleigh, NC: he was awesome! We developed a plan (intervention in July using Edwards Inspiris RESILIA; through minimally invasive right thoracotomy). We checked in on July 23rd at 5 am, went immediately to prep, and woke up in the Cardiac ICU about 7 hours later. I was released 4 days later with very minimal pain, and within 2 weeks I was walking 12 miles a day. Fast forward 6 weeks later I feel great, have lost 20 pounds, and have a bright outlook. Hopefully this lasts long enough to have TAVR a couple of times.
