About Me (In My Own Words)
I feel fine, outstanding really. Until my cardiologist advised me not to in July, I was exercising strenuously four or five times a week and felt good during and after exercise. Still do some stair climbing and push-ups with no problem. But I think I may get out of breath easier than I did a few years ago.
I was told about 12 years ago I have a murmur, and echocardiograms have shown gradual growth of aortic stenosis. The area of the valve this summer ws 0.78 square cm. A cardiac catheter test in July showed the coronary arteries were normal but the catheter could not pass through the aortic valve because it was too narrow.
I hate to have open heart surgery when I feel good, but I don't want to wait too long and damage my heart.
After getting three opinions saying I should get a valve replacement, I decided to do it. I will have a mini-sternotomy on Jan. 10 at the University of Kansas Hospital.
