About Me (In My Own Words)
My aortic valve was replaced in June 2005 due to stenosis caused by a bicuspid valve. In about 2009, I started noticing that I was getting more breathlessness upon exertion and pains in the upper left quadrant of my back. As time went on I had some dizziness and reported these symptoms to my doctors. Tests were done, and there were some abnormalties seen on the echocardiograms, but no conclusion was reached. i sought a second opinion at another facility and was told, after a TEE, catherization and other tests that the leaflet in my valve had stopped functioning and I would need a replacement. In December, 2014, I underwent the second heart surgery, eight and one-half years to the day of the first. The traditional surgery was performed, but, the valve was not replaced. I was told that the original valve's leaflet had started working once I was opened for surgery, and, it had been cleaned out of any scar tissue/debris. My case was supposedly presented to some medical entity in January, 2014. Meanwhile, I am feeling only a little better and am having a time with the incision and whatever wiring was used to hold the breastbone together is really bothering me and preventing me from doing things that I should be able to do by now. I am in further consultation with the surgeon at this point.
