About Me (In My Own Words)
Physican/Patient with Aortic Valve Challenges
I am a 52 year old physician who has had two aortic valve surgeries and more recently a TAVR. As a physician/ patient the most important advice I can give to anyone with a heart valve challenges is:
For those preparing to have surgery. Remember you are human. Your fears and feelings of vulnerability are normal and natural reactions. Accept and respect these emotions, but eventually change your focus to actions of preparations for healing.
For those recovering. Be gentle and respectful to your body as it recovers. Eat well, sleep much and take this time to reflect on your life goals and priorities.
For those who have recovered. Thank your heart for keeping you alive and take actions to improve your overall health. A healthy mind, body and spirit is the best way to help your heart help you!!!!
My advice to all. Realize that your heart valve challenge does NOT define who you are, who you are not and certainly has no influence on how special you can be.
We with congenital heart valve challenges are a unique group with unique needs.
Many solutions are on the horizon. I believe as a group we can speed the pace by which solutions translate into medical therapy.
