About Me (In My Own Words)
I am a 66 year old male and had a aortic valve replacement at the age of 47. It was a mechanical valve and has served me well. I have taken care of my blood thinner situation and have never had any issues. Now nearly 20 years later i have a failing mitral valve and my cardiologist wants to do open heart surgery and replace the mitral valve and replace the mechanical aortic valve with pig's valves and then take me off of the blood thinners. I am concerned about the risk of open heart surgery especially doing a two valve replacement. I want to talk about the possibility of keeping the aortic valve and doing a mitral valve repair. I know every case can vary but would like to know if this would be a option for me. At his point i do not have any regurgitation nor shortness of breath but the mitral vale is going bad according to my last echo. Any thoughts or advice?
