About Me (In My Own Words)
I had shortness of breath and wheezing that got progressively worse over time, to the point where it was waking me up at night. I have always been an allergy sufferer, so I chalked it up to that. But my wife convinced me to go to an Urgent Care to have it checked out. They did an EKG and found something that didn't look right so they sent me to the ER. After a few days in the hospital and several tests, they told me I had sever aortic stenosis and would need an open-heart valve replacement surgery... Heart Failure. As soon as I heard that term my question was "How long do I have"? I was assured that many people live a long life after this type of procedure. They highly recommended a mechanical valve, as I am only 53 and those last much longer. The main cause of valve stenosis was likely due to the fact that I had a bicuspid valve rather than the normal tricuspid valve. Combined that with poor dietary habits and you have trouble. I had my surgery over three months ago and feel great! Some soreness in my chest yet, but that I am told that is normal and it is getting a little each day. Major props to the folks at St E's hospital in Appleton Wi. They were all phenomenal. I will also say this: whatever those nurses and tech's get paid is not enough. They are saints!
