About Me (In My Own Words)
It was a slow progression as my heart murmur got slowly worse, and the annual Transthoracic Echo Cardiogram indicated I was now considered severe and I was a TAVR candidate. After initial testing, it was determined that my right carotid artery was in the left ventricle wall and I would need a bypass at the time of the AVR surgery, so it was open heart for me. During the surgery, they found it was not an issue, but I did receive a SAVR procedure and they did not use the graft they took from my right leg. The rest was clockwork, walking the next day, and discharge on day 4. It was a well orchestrated procedure and the nursing in the cardiology ICU the first two days was excellent.
