About Me (In My Own Words)
Diagnosed with mitral valve regurgitation during a near death hospitalization in 2011. I was 21 years old. All vital organs were shutting down due to an undiagnosed systemic Lupus flare up. It was then during my fight for my life that drs found my leaky heart valve. It is suspected that I suffered from rheumatic fever as a child. I am now 32 years old and my mitral valve is severely leaking and it is now time to get my replacement surgery. I have chosen a mechanical valve per my surgeons recommendation due to my young age and will receive open heart surgery instead of minimally invasive. Apparently minimally invasive recovery is much more painful rather than open heart recovery. I am also a mom to 3 young children with my youngest being only 3 years old. A smooth recovery without complications is crucial so that I can be present in my children’s lives.
