About Me (In My Own Words)
I have had a total of three open heart surgeries. A tissue mitral valve replacement in 1984, mechanical mitral valve replacement in 1998 and tricuspid valve replacement in 2005.
I survived a cardiac arrest incident in 2006 because I was treated with a new but promising therapy where they cooled me down. I was on vacation in Hawaii at the time and my husband saved my life by performing CPR until paramedics arrived at our hotel. If I had been on the mainland, I might not have survived as the protocol used wasn't common here at the time. I have an angel on my shoulder to be sure!
Had a pacemaker installed in 2011.
Because of the multiple sugeries I have AF (chronic) and have CHF so my cardiac problems are many...but I'm still kicking at 61.
