About Me (In My Own Words)
I was admitted into the hospital weeks before my surgery. I was diagnosed with Moderately severe mitral valve regurgitation, caseous calcification of the posterior mitral valve annulus, severe 2+ vessel coronary
artery disease, status post percutaneous coronary intervention with in-stent
restenoses, hypertension, severe left ventricular hypertrophy, idiopathic
thrombocytopenic purpura, recent admission with acute pulmonary edema,
congestive heart failure, acute on chronic. Needless to say, I had a whole lot going on. Because of that, my surgery ( valve replacement with a CABG) went ok but I had a lot of complications afterward which caused me to be in the ICU for two weeks, which would have made my stay in the hospital almost one month.
My recovery has been slower than expected, which I was told that it would be. I am still experiencing swelling in my legs and issues with limited use of my hands. So far I have been making sure I walk every day, no matter how difficult. I am also being mindful to listen to my body and rest when needed.
02/20/22-Now that I am home I am finding that recovery is like a roller coaster! I can be doing okay one day and then the next not have energy for anything. My biggest frustration is that it's difficult to walk and my hands don't work like I would like them to. I'm still trying to be patient with the process.
