It was discovered in February that I had a severely leaking mitral valve. I am in Cleveland preparing for the surgery on Monday and Dr. Gillinov told me I have calcium in the valve which is incredibly risky. He said I may now need a replacement instead of repair. He also told the statistics for death in this procedure due to removing the calcium are much higher than a valve repair or replacement. I found this out yesterday so I'm nervous about Monday's surgery, to say the least.
