About Me (In My Own Words)
I was born with multiple congenital heart problems and had my first surgery at 11 days old for coarctation of the aorta, at age 4 months I had open heart surgery for repair of a large ASD,then at age 3.5 I had a balloon dilation of my bicuspid aortic valve, at age 15 I had an AVR with a bioprosthetic valve. I had been doing great after that surgery with mild stenosis note on an echoe last august 2015, I went back for routine testing this August, 2016, and an ecoe showed severe aortic stenosis. Because I was not having symptoms, my doctor decided it was OK for me to go back to school. I am in my third year of college. I had a follow up visit this week, and my valve needs to be replaced again soon. the doctors are very surprised that stenosis went from mild to severe in one year. I am having a CT scan this week, am meeting with 2 surgeons and trying to decide on a mechanical valve or the Ross procedure.
