About Me (In My Own Words)
Several years ago I suffered from a bacterial infection which resulted in endocarditis and a ruptured aortic valve while I was in my late 30's. After being unable to get a proper diagnosis of my symptoms for a few months I was finally sent to ER after an echo cardiogram revealed my condition. I had mechanical heart valve replacement surgery the next day.
The surgery was completed successfully but there would be several complications post surgery including pericardial effusion which is a build up of blood and fluids around the heart which impede heart function. After a second surgery to remove the fluid build up I went back to ICU where I then developed atrial fibrillation. Heart function returned to normal the next day after being put on meds.
After 2 weeks in the hospital I was finally discharged where I continued intravenous anti-biotic treatment for a couple more weeks. After a couple of years I applied to the insurance company to allow me to do my Coumadin therapy from home.
