Katharine Rudnyk  So proud of my husband Adrian for his recovery from a mitral valve repair by Dr. Vaughn Starnes a few years ago. I am so happy to report that a very traumatic experience has a silver lining. It has been a year now since a garden opened between the surgical waiting area and the administrative wing of USC Keck Hospital. With the urging of my husband and 26 days in the hospital watching him recover, I wrote a letter to USC Keck, and the next thing you know, Adrian and I are meeting so many fabulous people to begin the journey of creating a garden that is viewable from above. Great to enjoy from above as patients walk the halls to recover from heart surgery. Many companies and people gave their time and talents to build this wonderful garden space. Hearing how the hospital staff volunteered their time to contribute was very heartfelt. I know so many team members at the hospital, administrators, and families look for quiet solace. This will be one place that everyone will appreciate for years to come. Glad a year has gone by, and we are both working at a garden center taking one day at a time.
