I'm 3 months into recovery and feeling very good. I just finished cardio rehab and my overall endurance
and strength have increased immensely. You'll be hiking before you know it. God Speed!

All the best for a successful surgery. I had robotic mitral repair at CC in 2016. I was back hiking 10 weeks after my surgery on a moderate trail for 4 hours. I didn't want to push too hard. You'll be in good hands there. The most important thing to remember: ask for what you need or want. They were really great with after care and want you to have what you need for the quickest recovery.

Good luck, Travis. I had a mitral repair in 2018. You’re going to the best at Cleveland Clinic. (My Northwestern team all came from CC.) You are right to get it done now. My heart was getting enlarged due to my mitral valve prolapse, but it Re-modeled after to some extent. The less time it’s in distress, the better. You won’t have any problem doing your hike in 6 months. I backpacked for 12 days carrying 50-60 pounds at about 9,000-11,000 feet last summer, and I’m 57.
