Hi Tony, What great news! Makes me happy, You sound like you have a wonderful atttiutde. I swear that will get you far! I've had my own health issues and I'm actually quite grateful for it. I've got new eyes that I look at life with. When you have something like this it reallly makes you grateful for the little things in life...like watching your baby grow. This is awesome good news. I will keep the prayers coming for you and your family. I am at Mayo Clinic for my annual checkup. I had the second mini stroke last week, in the last four months, that caused a few minutes of blindness again. I have none of the conditions that cause strokes and my INR has been at the top of the range for the past four weeks. My echo and tee both show the mechanical valve is clean. We are waiting now to see what the MRI shows. Thanks for sharing with us, as we never know what we will be hit with next and knowledge is power.

I also thought with my mechanical valve (2009) I was done with do overs. I am very diligent about antibiotics before procedures. What is the connection to the River Bats? I live southwest of there about 60 miles in Stinger country.

I had successful aortic valve replacement (on Nov. 19, 2012), just shortly after yours, and have been following your journal entries since before my surgery.
I never started my own journal here as I had created a CarePages journal for friends, my two twenty-plus "kids" and extended family before I knew this site existed.
In short, my replacement was necessary due to a double blood infection (staph and strep) that damaged my aortic valve. I apparently contracted these through some relatively minor procedures (teeth cleaning/colonoscopy and/or rhinoplasty repair). They were not able to determine exactly which (2?) procedures caused the infections, but I suppose it doesn't really matter. I, too, had 24-hr. IV treatments (for over a mo.) after being released fro the hospital for the infections.
The important part was that a hole in my heart was actually discovered during the replacement surgery, so I believe it was kind of a blessing in disguise.
Bottom line, I was sooo happy to receive your latest update. I hope to continue to receive positive updates about your situation, and am storming heaven for you!
