Hi Selene, I am a 58 year old fitness instructor. I was floored when I was told I needed a mitral valve repair last year. I had no symptoms. I was scared to have surgery. My cardiologist and my surgeon convinced me that if I didn't have a repair I would most certainly have a stroke or heart attack. I am one year and three months out from my surgery. I had a right thoracotomy - so no visible scar - it was not as easy to recover that I thought it would be - but I am back to 100%. Go to doctors you trust - it sounds like you will soar through the treatment you need. Give yourself time to heal if you do have surgery. Good luck
