Sandra - I think you'll be pleasantly surprised at the advances in heart surgery since you had your last procedure. I would see if you're a candidate for a minimally invasive, mini-thoractomy for your replacement. The recovery is much easier and shorter - also, since there isn't a sternum cut, there's no driving restriction. Except for being a little tired, I was able to resume normal activities pretty much immediately after my procedure.
It is stressful to have surgery, but you have a very experienced surgeon who will do all the work. Remember, your doctor wants a great outcome as much as you do! Stay positive and set a goal of something fun you want to do 6 weeks after surgery. Let that event drive your thinking! Focus on what you want to achieve - you'll feel better about the entire process. All the best to you!
