Richard Nicholson  Hi Kathleen. I had open heart aortic valve replacement surgery, with a bovine valve. I had a good bit of pain for several days post-surgery, but pain meds worked pretty well. Some but less pain for a few weeks after I got home, mostly when getting up or twisting. Or coughing or sneezing, which was the worst. Then, less and less pain. Now, still, almost two years later, my sternum is a bit achy when I wake up (I sleep on my side so sort of hunch in). But it is more a nuisance than pain. I’d say probably like mild arthritis pain.
