Michael Cline Hi Steve, Doing fairly well. I had a right mini-thoracotomy and they had to deflate a lung so currently I'm very winded most of the time until I build up my strength. I'm walking and resting and walking and resting and walking and resting all day long with mixing in some Netflix and reading...kind of boring. The pain is not bad at all so Tylenol takes the edge off. Good news is my wife and daughter watered the veggie garden and harvested radishes while I was in the hospital. Hope you are doing well. After having the aura/migraine for years, it was really a surprise to hear my 82 yr old father say "yeah... had it all my life". Just this week, I talked to a co-worker who had aortic replacement years ago say that he had the exact same symptoms as I had. What a surprise. I get a dark spot that appears where I can see nothing in it. I have to look off to the side to see what I am missing. It slowly begins to be illuminated as what looks like lightening. The lightening gets bigger till it is arc shape that gets larger still until it moves out to the periphery and then ends. It takes about an hour from start to finish. Then the migraine. If I take a Tylenol right away, when it begins, then I avoid the headache. The co-worker says that his stopped after his surgery. I had it happen in the hospital and not since. Who knows...

Meredith Bray I get tired after my vision comes back, and I don't have the painful migraine. I used to get them several times a month. Now I get them a few times a year, usually when I am overtired and overstressed. Nothing a little caffeine, quiet, and 15 minutes laying down can't solve.

Hi Michael. I am facing aortic valve replacement also. I return to my cardiac surgeon May 9th for echo then talk to surgeon to find out when surgery will be. He did give me a choice of tissue or mechanical valve. I have decided tissue valve so I won't be on Coumadin. Reading your journal entry there is a sense of positivity in your words. I am trying to find that stregnth but I admit it's all still scary for me.

Michael Cline Hi Judy, At this point all we can do is trust the our surgeons and be confident that we will feel so much better after our recovery. It may take a while to fully recover, but we need to keep pushing forward. Most patients in this community claim that the anticipation leading up to the surgery is far worse than the actually event. Lean our your support system for strength. I agree with your decision on the tissue valve. In my opinion, the "blood thinner medication" life would be too stressful. Hi Michael, I hope you are doing well, I saw your reply to one of my posts and I have to say in the last month I can also really feel the effects of the BAV. I get winded just walking up slight inclines, nevermind stairs. My surgery is coming up so I will give you an update when I get out. Hope spring is coming to NY soon. Steve
