I had mitral repair robotically on October 13, 2016. The pain will be intense at first: don't be shy about letting them know what you need to relieve it. But you'll be amazed at how quickly you start to recover. Getting tired easily will take a bit longer to get over. Good luck and I'll see you on the other side!

Phyllis Petersen My sister told me that the tube down my throat was removed fairly quickly and I have no memory of it. Most of the tubes were gone by the time I was fully aware. The drain tube on the right side was painful, but was removed the next day. The Foley for draining your bladder was only annoying when it wasn't flowing properly, but the PCA shifted it and it was fine. I had surgery Thursday morning, moved to step-down early Friday evening, was able to shower and go to the rooftop terrace on Sunday, then out Monday morning. Ask for anything you feel you need. If they can, they'll get it for you. I was amazed by how wonderful everyone was.

Phyllis Petersen It'll be tough energy wise and you'll have to be careful with your right side, but as long as you can get a nap and some help with them I think you will be okay. I visited my niece who has 5 at home from 5-17 a month after surgery and 2 grandkids 1 and newborn and I was able to do quite a lot, but did tire more easily. But each person is different, so it's good to have as many people as you can ready to help if needed.
