Hi holly , Welcome to you and your husband It ‘s still very early days after surgery . I have a st.Jude’s mitral valve . After surgery, I found that sleeping propped up helped a lot and having low volume background sound / radio . Sleeping propped up kept my chest wound in alignment and felt like it would help with healing . After my sternum had healed I found sleeping on my right hand side ( away from the heart sound ) was a good position to sleep . Your husband might be able to change the way he feels about the sound , over time he will appreciate that it is keeping him alive and the sound should become more of a comfort and he will notice it less . I don’t think any of us got a good night ‘s sleep after open heart surgery . It’s a big life change and a big operation , it takes time to adjust to and time and patience to recover . This lovely community is here to listen and chat if you need us .
