G, be sure to take your own pillow with you. It’s the one thing I wish I had at the hospital that I didn’t take. I left it in the car for the 3 hour drive home. I used 2 pillows in the car and it helped keep me comfort. You will need a pillow or 2 on the plane flying home.
Most hospitals give you a big heart pillow, but I found that I needed at least one of my own too.
My surgeon let’s patients fly home he say after discharge and sometimes that is day 3 or 4.

Hi G, if you travel by car, sit in the back seat. This is a precautionary measure should the air bags deploy. You do not want them to hit your sternum, which is healing. If you travel by plane, do not lift any suitcase, certainly nothing over five pounds, for the first four weeks at least. And do not lift both arms to store something in the overhead bin on the plane. Also, be careful that no one backs into you accidentally, especially in a crowded airport.
