Hi Gloria, My name is Joe and I had aortic valve replacement almost two years ago. The surgery itself was the invasive type because doc said I was in too good health, other than sever bicuspid aortic valve, and did not qualify for the less invasive procedure. There was not a lot of pain associated with recovery...mainly in back. I was driving again in three weeks. Lost 23 lbs in first two weeks because I just was not hungry. Took about three months to get back to semi-normal. End of year before back to normal. I had three ER visits in first two weeks due to A Flutter. Had two cardio aversions to get AF fixed. Cardiologist put me on beta blocker but I could not tolerate any of the ones tried. Surgery 3-31-2015. I started to feel good again in 2016. Everything normal now. Only on small dose aspirin. Feel great. Just be prepared to be tired for quite a while. I highly recommend NE GA Heart center in Gainesville GA. Dr Winston did fine job on me. I also did seven weeks of cardiac rehab program at Northside Forsyth. You can do this...I was 74 when I had this surgery. In summary...little pain, lots of tiredness, do the cardiac rehab.
