Hi Diane! Just a little message to say thank you for your lovely thoughts. We just actually went up into London today, sort of for my early Christmas Day, and to see all the lights, etc. We went to a show, and it really was fantastic. It's a great city as you know. It's hard to believe that by this time next week, the surgery will have been done and I will hopefully be on Recovery Road! Have a wonderful holiday and thanks so very much for the support. Diane Maher Hi Steven....well the good news is I had my first echo yesterday and my cardiologist said my new little room mate is loving her new ‘stable’ ....but.... why does there have to be a but with with me? Why can’t it just be like so many others on here...yay I saw my cardiologist and everything is great until next yea🤔. My echo also showed some lingering fluid around my lungs so need another chest X-ray to compare with the one from my discharge from hospital...the last time. And of course more lab work to see what my potassium levels are, see him again at the end of the month and hopefully i don’t have to go on a short term diuretic to help with the fluid retention.....that is what started all of this afib craziness in the first place. Out with the incentive spirometer as he said deep breathing exercises and increased walking may produce some natural results.🙏. And the other great news, is I feel I have finally turned a corner this week and am feeling so much stronger and energetic. 🎉🎉. Hope you are naturally a patient kinda guy haha....and...start accumulating a lit of brownie points with your wife...it has been almost 4 weeks (on tues.) since I was last discharged from hospital and it has taken me this long to get to this point. Hope you survived your first taste of winter...boy neither one of us miss Edmonton!! Happy Thanksgiving....there is so much to be thankful for, especially on this one!!

It feels sooooo gooood to be off of those pins and needles we've been sitting on, Diane! We have been worried about you, and, apparently, with good reason. I'm sorry to learn of the challenges you've had to deal with over the past month, and am glad to know that you are feeling somewhat better now. It is hard for us to imagine the stress that you and your family have been through. Dave was probably beside himself with worry during the past few weeks. But, the good news seems to be that you are definitely on the mend... slowly perhaps, but steadily. We will watch for your updates as you continue to heal and hope that the days ahead will be filled with more good news and that this ordeal will soon be a distant memory. We will keep you in our prayers as you move forward to a full recovery.

great confidence boost.....your idea was looking good at 1:30 this am. They even gave me, voluntarily, a sleeping pill from my surgeon😊

In a little more than two years, your journey has taken you from shock, fear and disbelief to peace, acceptance and confidence. What an amazing transformation that knowledge does for us. What you found here is the validation of your fears and the assurance that most people are so much better off after surgery. It is their stories, their generosity of sharing their experiences, that will guide you through the next several days, and the months afterward. Embrace their positive energy. You have prepared yourself very well and, afterward, I will be very interested in how Peggy Huddleston’s program has helped you. Diane Maher What a beautiful and touching message, Mark. I have read it over a number of times over the past couple of days....it was so very meaningful to me on a number of different levels. I just got back from a 5 hour pre op orientation which included a tour of the ICU so nothing will be unfamiliar to me when I arrive at 5:30 am, A real confidence boost!!

Diane, thank you so much for replying to my question regarding the sound of a mechanical valve. As I currently live here in England ( originally from upstate New York) I don't know that I will have a "choice" with the NHS system. Glad you are doing well, and your poor son.....this weekend is supposed to be THE hottest on record. I'm actually headed to London for the day tomorrow to meet some friends visiting from Rhode Island. Going to try to stay cool!! xx
