Merry Christmas Derrick! We are so happy you are the road back to a healthier you and hoping you feel better than you ever have at the end of this hard adventure you have just taken. Your dad misses you already, I think he started the second he left you. Of course he still worries, but your Journal helps him, gives him great comfort to know you are doing better each day. We love & miss you. Jackie & Dad
Whew! What a rough ride you have had! Three surgeries in two weeks! You are a tough guy Derrick and I know recovery has not been easy. You have faced it all with intelligence and a positive attitude-I commend you! Love, Mom
Derrick, so glad you are on the mend. We have been praying for you. I continue to keep you on the prayer list at church and sent them this link as well. The church has been faithful to ask about you and how you are recovering and are continuing to do so. Love you much. Aunt Ellen.
Hello Derrick. I've been following your journey since you signed my son Ryan Kukawski's journal last month. You've gone through the worst of it now and will be feeling so much better very soon. You are definitely in our prayers. Best of luck to you for a speedy recovery, and I look forward to your next journal update :)
Take care and Happy Holidays!

This is hard for your parents too, as they hate to see you having pain. Get on your feet soon snd show the drs how strong you are. Love, Aunt Jane and Uncle Dennis
Hi Derrick, I know you are still under as I write this, but we want you to know we are praying for you and I have others praying. Sorry you are going through this, but you will feel so much better later on. We love you and give your mom a hug or kiss for us when you can. Love, Uncle Jerry, Aunt Angela, and cousin Hollie.
Good luck Derrick, I'll say a prayer for you... please keep us informed as you start feeling better, best of luck... Since you've passed your bar I may need to keep in touch, never know when I might need a good lawyer :)...
I guess you are right and this is a mixed blessing. Although you prefer not to need surgery, it is better to get it done and then to feel much better. I will be praying, and will let Faith know. She has kept you in prayer at her school. I will continue to let our church know. You will be prayed for by many prayer warriors.....be assured. Love you and stay positive. Ellen, Adam and Faith.
Your Uncle Dave and Aunt Linda are keeping you in our prayers!! I know this is not how you wanted to spend your holidays but hopefully the Doctors can figure out how to go about healing you and you will come out of all of this feeling so much healthier and happier!! I opt for the positive rather than any negatives. Looking forward to your next visit with us here in Michigan!! We all love you and are rooting for a speedy recovery once your surgery is done.
Dave and Linda
Hey Derrick. I am thinking and praying for you. Have put you on the prayer list at church as well. Many friends have asked me how you are doing. So know there are many prayers besides mine being sent up on your behalf. Hang in there. I love you and look forward to seeing you soon.
Hi Derrick. I am so proud of you working thru all the setbacks that you have had thus far. You are a very determined young guy and I know all will work out great. We say prayers for you constantly.
ater when all is done, you will be amazed at how well your going to feel. Probably the best of your whole life.
I know for myself, I now appreciate every day after all my heart issues.
As for the blood thinners, I hated to be on them but have become comfortable taking them and have had no problems. Aunt Jane and Uncle bill, who had valve problems have no trouble either. You are going to be fine. Sure wish we could pop in for a visit. God Bless You,
Aunt Myrtle and Uncle Larry
Hey Derrick...sorry you are having to go through all of this. But I'm sure you will be okay. I pray for you all the time and so do the people in my church.
You are indeed a special guy...you have a grreat understanding of the world around you positive attitude and that handsome, reassuring smile. Their are plans for you in this world...I'm sure of it.
Get on with it get well, and my sweet, I will await your full recovery with joy. You are greatly loved. Aunt Carol
I can't believe it would make sense to keep you as an inpatient for 6 weeks when the service you need can be rendered as an outpatient! That doesn't even make sense! imagine the cost difference..nevermind your inconvenience! There's got to be another way.
Hope you're able to work it out with your ins. Co.. I'd keep pushing for a better solution.
Saw your note and wanted to wish you some encouragement. I am 36 and just recently went through a mitral valve repair like Trent V. He lives only about 15 minutes from me, so we had a chance to meet up and discuss the surgery before he went under the knife.
Regarding your note about getting a second opinion, I think that is an excellent idea. If I had to recommend someone, it would be Dr. Kevin Accola in Orlando. I see his reviews come up here often on the HVJ site, and have watched a few of his video interviews by Adam. It would obviously be a 2-hr trek for you each way to see him, but with his experience, it might be worthwhile. I have never met him, but after checking this site for a year, the same names like his seem to come up often. BTW, I had my mitral valve repair surgery at the Cleveland Clinic (Dr. Gillinov) in case you were curious.
Best of luck to you in this challenging time and will say a prayer for you.
Hey derrick. I am also getting a mechanical valve instead of the tissue option. My surgeon recommends the for people our age, im 38. The blood thinner also scares me. I was told the majority of people that have issues with them do not manage the doses the way they are told. At least in many case the mechanical valve will give me a better chance of not having another surgery in my life time. Well good luck with everything.
Welcome to the HVJ site, I resently had a valve replacement alos had a bicuspic valve, well I'm just ticking away now with my new mechanicla valve, 4 months post surgery, it's just unbelievable. You've come to the right place for support, this site helped me through my surgery, I don't write as much now but I'm always reading the entries, take care of yourself, and keep posting...
Been there my friend. We could be twins! I had a bicuspid aortic valve with regurgitation and endocarditis in the spring also which moved my surgery up to this year! The infection actually ate a hole through one of my leaflets. That could one reason you are feeling so lousy. They also found that I had a small aneurism.
You are doing the right thing by seeing your doctors and moving forward. I didn't realize how crappy I was feeling until now...10 weeks post op. Had surgery at the Cleveland Clinic with Dr. Roselli....very impressed with him and the hospital. Also, as soon as I came out of surgery I no longer looked grey but pink! The infection really does a number on your body.
If you get a chance read my journal...I assume you went through at least 4-6 weeks of antibiotic infusions? There is a rainbow after all this at this point I feel like I am ready for golf! (My wife doesn't think so...she wants me to take it a bit slower...my surgeon says if it hurts than stop doing it!).
God Bless you on your journey. Any questions this is a great place and read Adam's book it was a life saver for myself and my wife.
Hi Derrick, You have come to the right site and welcome. You will find a lot of new friends here that will be just like family. If you are having some smytoms make sure you stay on top of them. Sometimes doctors and tests dont always show what you feel. My first cardio doctor said my stenosis and annersym were all moderte and I would have to wait for it to become severe. Well I got a new doctor and he got right to work with all of the symtoms I told him about and now I am recoverying since 9/19/12 from surgery. The part is my annersym turned out to be larger than all of the tests I took and he said it was a good thing I had it taken care of. So it the doctors wont listen to you seek another doctor out. I hope everything turns out good for you. I will folllow your progress. Feel free to read my story. There are a lot of good ones on here and they are all amazing. Keep in touch.
Mooing all over,
