Deborah Arndt Thanks. Yes, that's the challenge. I'm getting better at both estimating what I can handle and knowing when to throw in the towel and sit down/lay down. I took it very easy yesterday because I really wanted to make it to church today. I did, and the rest of the day was pretty busy, but I made myself keep my pace slow and take frequent rests. Now I'm wide awake when I should be going to bed, but feeling really good.

Deborah Arndt That's encouraging to hear. I've been trying to use mine more and it does seem to help. I'm blowing about what I did pre-surgery. I haven't done it enough yesterday or today because I've been gone so much, but I think being more active has helped me breathe better, so maybe no harm done. I'm feeling up to doing more and my son is more responsive, so I think I'll be okay. My hubbie is home for 3 days and that helps too. I'm thrilled that my one best friend is back in town and the other is finally getting over her bad cold, so they can help me too.
Sounds like you are doing good under the circumstances. Glad you got a little extra help. Hope hubby returns soon that will help. Good Luck.

Your body will tell you what you are not ready for. I developed A-fib 3 weeks after my surgery. It was not a big deal, but I wasn\'t expecting it.
I wish you a smooth recovery.

Deborah, you will be in my thoughts and prayers Monday as you have your surgery and begin your recovery. I\'m glad you did not have to wait too long. Isn\'t it good to be so prepared with the knowledge provided by those who have gone before us? I will be leaving on Thursday to travel to Cleveland for my surgery next Tuesday, the 13th. You will probably already be home by then.
Take care and please keep us updated on your progress.

My surgery is Monday also.
You are very lucky that you dont have to wait. It has been a long difficult wait for me. I had a blood clot which delayed my surgery for a couple of months.
I am sure we will be posting \"post op\" next week which will be magical words to me.
Good luck and take care.

I was told 5 years ago, I had a heart murmur, and when we moved south thats when my life changed. Exactly on my 65th birthday I was told I had aortic stenosis. Meeting my cardio doctor it got more involved. It is aortic stenosis/regurgatation and thoriac anuersym. It is moderate right now so I am here for the long haul. Just wondering where my life is going and want to get better and back to my normal self. I think the worse of it for me is my Dad had an adonomal anuersym and my daughter had crucial aortic stenosis and I was there for both.
Remember we all are here for you. You take care and good luck to you. You have already been thru a lot. Talk to ya later.
For the long haul

Deborah Arndt Thanks for the welcome. I have already been helped by reading other people's journals. It is wonderful to see honest accounts of what it feels like physically and emotionally. The doctors and nurses can only tell you what it looks like from their perspective, not what it feels like from the patients'. If I feel down, I'll know it's normal.

I also have severe aortic stenosis .8 Ao I believe. I live in Big Lake Mn. I have a consult setup Monday at Mercy Hospital in Coon Rapids. I am also trying to get in at Mayo but an still waiting. I have thought about Abbott but have not heard many good things about even though there are rated high in heart surgery. I had open heart (Aortic repair) in 1977 in Fargo ND at the age of 13. I do not look forward to them cracking my chest again. Have they said anything about minimal surgery to you? I was told with a previous surgery I was not a canidate for the robotic precedure. If you would like to email me my address is tckangas@yahoo.com. Hope all goes well with you. Tim

Deborah Arndt Thanks for responding, Tim. I had neurosurgery last August at Abbot. I would have a very hard time going back there because of some serious mistakes that were made. Fortunately, no lasting harm was done. Most of it was a matter of record mixups and poor documentation, but it led to a week of hell for me and my family. My surgeon was excellent and most of the nursing staff was fabulous, but it would be my last choice for hospitals in the Twin Cities. I looked at ratigs on hospitals and think I remember that Mercy was rated highly. Mayo of course has a great reputation, but going to Rochester is difficult. My brother is doctoring there for stage 4 cancer and it puts an extra strain on him and the family to have the long drive to Rochester so often, plus the expense of driving, motels and meals. There are plenty of good hospitals here in the Cities. We haven't met any surgeons yet, but I'm hoping there may be less invasive options for me.

Hi Deborah...welcome to the \"club\" and welcome to the HVJ site. You have definitely come to the right place. Everyone here has either already gone through surgery or is in some stage of waiting. I am up March 13th, also severe/critical aortic stenosis and aneurysm.
It is a somewhat scarey place to be, but the guys and gals on this site have the absolute best and most reliable advice...they have actually lived it. As someone else said recently, we are here (on the site) because we want to be, not because we have to be. Each person is here to share their experience in hopes that it will make someone else\'s easier.
If you have questions or just want to \"talk\", but it out there, you will find friends crawling out of the woodwork, lol.
Keep us updated, let us know when you have a surgery date etc.
REALLY getting closer...Linda Dixon

Deborah Arndt Thanks. I know this will be a big help. I had really major neurosurgery last year for a very rare condition and I found a very few kindred souls online. That was a huge help to me mentally and emotionally. It's a little hard to take in that I'm headed for my second major operation in about 7 months, after going 40+ years since the last one (not heart related).
