STEPHEN MORRIS I was worried about blood thinners as well...really I shouldn't have been, if that was what was going to save my life. However, the new surgeon who took my case only did natural tissue valves...so no blood thinner. Can your surgeon do tissue valves?

Timothy Andre Hi Chantal, It seems that the anxiety leading up to surgery is common amongst us heart warriors. Do your best to go easy on yourself during this portion of your journey and try to be mindful of your thoughts. I highly recommend getting 2 or 3 surgical opinions. Know your options and bring questions for the surgeon(s). I think the more knowledge and understanding you have for the procedure you ultimately choose, will help calm the nerves a bit. There is a lot of great information here on HVS. If you have any questions for us, we are always eager to help in any way we can. I personally had the Ross Procedure and am happy to share my experience. There are many factors that determine if a patient is a good candidate for this procedure, be sure to research it, as it may be an option for you. My main reason for choosing the "Ross" was that I did not want to take blood thinners for life. I understand your concern with that. However, there are also many heart warriors that chose the mechanical valve and have no problem taking the daily medications. They can answer any questions you may have about that. Good luck and God bless you on your journey
