My name is Lewis Garlisi. I am scheduled for open heart mitro and aortic valve surgery at Morton Plant on January 16, 2015. I just discovered this website last night and read about your experience at the same hospital. I am hoping that you are well and wanted to pick your brain if you were up to it. Hi Celia, When I went to the doctor, he told me the smaller incision on my shoulder was a bypass. Thats the new way of doing it. He said they used it for cooling me down, it goes faster and you dont have to go so far and it will bring you back sooner to get your heart going again. It can also be used for anything else they need to put in. I also had the central line in my neck as well. My whole right shoulder has been so stiff and it feels like it is pulling and getting tight.. At least I didnt have any back pain a lot of people complained about. Now I am starting to get different pain feelings. It is my nerves starting to get back to normal. Those pains come from any place. They usually dont last to long but I will take a Tromodol if I have to. Have a good day.

Hi Celia, Hope things are starting to improve for you by now. Im still doing pretty good. Just one day at a time. Going slow but I keep workig at it. Rehab is right around the corner and Im a little nervous about that. The only pain I have is from the small incision on my right shoulder. It just feels tights and my shoulder is stiff. The big incision I hardly get any pain from it at all. Hope everything is going good for you

Celia Werner Good Morning Linda and Elsie. That's all we can do is one day at a time. I should know about rehab on Thursday. Doctors appt. recheck whole in the incision. I also have 2 drain whole still open in my stomach and they told me that rehab will be a no go til they are healed. Was your incision on your sholder from the central line? My biggest thing I'm trying to get over is migranes. My dog Chloe need a hug so until next time keep taking those steps and write agian. Thanks!!

Things will level out day by day. I found it funny when you asked if anyone\'s chest size had increased. Yes, mine did at first I thought it was my imagination, so i was glad to hear you ask that question. By the way, out since January, my diagnosis was bicuspid aortic stenosis / anurysm having to have repair to aortic root. I take metroprolol along with warfarin. Side effects from metroprolol are tiredness. I am blessed I know this. I have to watch sodium intake and weight. Sometimes I feel funny feeling in my body, the only way I can explain it is feels like tingly feeling in extremities. Have you felt that? Have good day and hang in there..days go by and they get better.

Celia Werner But, 2 sizes? What did your doctor say about it. I agree with the diagnois of the metoprolol. It causes breathing problems with me. I feel like someone is pushing in on my chest when I take deep breaths. I wish there was something else that I could take. I have asthma. My doctors office only put patients on warfarin. I asked about other medication because I work in a pharmacy. I think thats everyones diagnois with salt. I'm still trying to loose the weight they put on my from the surgery. It's been tuff. I've only felt the tingly feeling around my chest area and stomach.
My biggest problem now is Miagranes. I have a feeling that the Metoprolol is doing it. I wish there was something else I could take. The doctor is no. My biggest problem now is having miagranes. Which I'm having probmes reading things right now. so I'll let you go and hopefully I'll hear from you again. Have a great and fantastic day. Hope you get well soon too. talk later.

Celia Werner Thank you for writing to me. My surgery was on 9-14-12. I left the hospital on the day of your surgery. They could believe that my coumedin level, leveled out so fast. My doctor told me today that my drainage holes would be the last things to heal. And as of today leave them open. My only problem I have had today is my stomach got all brocken out from tape. But found some cloth woven tape. Please keep writing.
