Recovery will be a trip with all the ups & downs, but you\'ll do great. We all did.

I went with a mechanical valve. Since I\'m 48 I would need to have at least 1 more ohs. I really don\'t want to go through this again. It\'s only been a few weeks, but so far the coumadin has been a non-issue; I get tested once a week, take a pill every night.
For me it\'s no competition: a nightly pill beats another open heart surgery any day.
I\'ll be following your progress and look forward to hearing about a successful journey.

I\'m pleased with the mechanical valve I received. The choices were a bit overwhelming. But, my doctor went over thoroughly the pros & cons. I didn\'t want to be on coumadin since I\'m so active. My doctor offered a high-performance valve that (hopefully) will allow me to be off the coumadin within 6 months and switch to the aspirin therapy. There are a few of them out there...the ON-X and CarboMediac (?)
And, I agree with you....I want this to be the only surgery I have to go through.

I am 3 weeks post op for my aortic valve replacement and I\'m doing well. The hard part is the anxiety/worry before surgery.
