Hi Bob, You are looking great! I had an aortic valve replaced just a year ago with the same procedure, a mini sternotomy. I opted for a tissue valve because I decided not to put up with the blood thinning drugs. You are just into your recovery now and I am sure you did your homework in knowing what to expect. A unsolicited word of advice; let people help you for the first weeks at least. Coughing, laughing, and heaven forbid- throwing up are about the only real pain you may have. Use the heart pillow, it does help. Good luck with your recovery. You feel great sooner than you expect.

Bob Bemben Surgery yesterday morning for AVR with bio-prosthetic valve. They used a mini-sternotomy so this morning I feel like I was kicked by a small mule! Am sitting up, waiting for breakfast. So far, so good. Thanks to everyone for all the good wishes!

Bob- A fellow retiree wants to wish you the very best with your surgery tomorrow. I hope you get a good nights sleep and feel confident about your team and the surgery as one moment you will be rolling on the gurney into surgery and the next waking up with that feeling of being on the other side! Try to have one of your most favorite memories in your life so far as the last thoughts in your mind and heart as you enter into surgery as it will give you a sense of calm. I will be praying for you and Kenneth tomorrow and looking forward to seeing updates from the two of you to each other as you head for your recovery. All will be well.
