Hi Barb,
I am interested in your journey through this heart crisis. I will need mitral valve replacement due to rheumatic heart disease soon. I could go to Mayo (Rochester) but am choosing FL instead where I live. I hope you\'re getting stronger every day!

I had my work done at the U of M Fairview which is connected to the Mayo Clinic. I figured what is good enough for kings, queens and presidents is good enough for me.
I had no idea I was sick, but found myself crawling up my stairs on all fours and called a nurse for triage. The ambulance and police were there in minutes and I remember passing out and the next thing the doctors were in a line saying do this or die.
I have always pushed through life and had been pushing through the heart disease for about 2 years. I thought the shortness of breath was due to being overweight or old (64) or ??just plain tired. Low and behold, my heart just broke on October 5th and within a few days, I have a new one. At least, I consider this a new heart.
Still pain and grief and joy to go through. Miracle of life....yup that's me....and why me???? I am tired - long day and pain is creeping up. Send me your email and I'll continue to write. I do remember asking the doctors how many of the mitral valve replacements they do a year and what are their stats. They said "You caould go somewhere else but probably wouldn't make it to to the next hospital" I went with them. : )
