A Turley Thank you, Stephanie! Now I know what our patients felt like with the central line and chest tubes. Also was awake for the extubation. I was happy with myself for getting out of bed the next morning. Lol. Of course my abdominal muscles weren't also cut thank goodness. Pulling the pacing wires was weird but not bad. It seemed weird having 20 year-old nurses in the cardiac step-down unit take care of me. Thanks again for thinking of me. Hope all is well with you and your clan. Gentle Hugs lol, Laurie

You will be fine. I love your smile and doggy too. After 10 days I got my two dogs back from the sitter and it helped/pushed me to get up and out but I'm not going to lie it was painful. I'm now 3 years AVR replacement and doing great. Good luck lady and just remember it does it get better little by little and sleep when necessary the first few weeks but don't forget to walk around too i.e. helps the lungs get the fluid out and helps with keeping away those nasty clots away plus it helped me to realize I really wanted to keep on living. Oh don't forget to blow that tube thing (spirometer) as prescribed. All these things will definitely help your recovery, and do every single thing the doctors ask. Lots of luck to you and we all will see you on the other side soon! Old-----AVR patient, I almost forget sometimes.

A Turley Thanks so much for the encouragement, Chris. Of course just now seeing this. I'm still doing the spirometer. 😉 I just got back to WV today. The mini-schnauzer is actually my grand dog. But as I came to my daughter's to recover, Maddy was happy to see me...and I, her. Something comforting about her curling up next to me.
It's very encouraging to hear that you are years out and doing great!

A Turley LOL. That is so sweet of you to offer your services. Going up 9/6. Lots of appointments until surgery date on 9/13. Honestly, I can't think of anything right now, but perhaps a visit once I am home would be jolly good. I feel badly that I haven't gotten out to meet you all to get the PC to Kathy. I'm here if you want to run over before the 6th. Call or text me 304-610-4076. Love you too!

Hello, Cuz.........sorry to hear about your valve. Having worked in ICU/SDU with heart patients, I know pretty much what you have to look forward to. You would be surprised to know how many people have bovine/porcine valve replacements. What made you decide to go all the way to Cleveland? I am quite curious about this. You know, WVU just opened a new cardiac and vascular unit. I don't know much about it but they are supposed to be some of the best in the country. But, I want to know what influenced your decision about Cleveland. I may need to have surgery on my Inferior Vena Cava in the near future and am curious about where I maybe should go. You know how much I dislike WVU/Ruby Memorial Hospital and don't trust them much at all. Keep me posted on what's going on with you. The wolves said to tell you Hoooowwwwllllllllllldy-do! Take care. LUV U Laurie.

A Turley Oh how sweet of you to write to me about this! It was the recommendation of my cardiologist here in town. However, I already knew from my ECHO that I was going to go to CC. They are #1 in hearts! There website is phenomenal. I've been able to talk on the phone and chat with nurses there. They are so organized and efficient. But what I liked best was being able to go in and see all of the different doctors and some of them have posted videos and talk about their specialties. I went on and read their bios. They also have articles available that they have published. I narrowed it down to 4 and the articles were what made me make my decision with Dr. Griffin. Am also hoping to have Dr. Gillinov do the surgery.
I know of someone who went to Ruby and had it done and they now have nerve damage in their leg. There can be complications no matter where it is done, but I just feel more comfortable going somewhere where they do many of them and not just a few. My doctor here admitted to Holly that CAMC doesn't have good outcomes with mitral valve repair. I confirmed that with a PVICU nurse. They are pretty good with Bypass.
Sorry to hear about your IVC. Are you able to search CC on your computer?
They have made so many advances in how they treat the heart. I'm pretty sure I'll just need a repair and not a replacement. Still, there are different approaches that they can use. I'm trying to educate myself on that now .
You can do a self-referral to CC too. Or just call and talk to them.
Thanks for signing up for this. I think it will be a much better way to communicate than FB. Also, I think you will get an email when I post. I didn't know you had posted until I came here to just look and maybe text something. I'll check back more often. LOL. Give my love back to the wolves! <3 And much love to you and Rick!!

Laurie: I had no idea you were having this procedure. I am posting the prayer of protection for you: "The light of God surrounds Laurie, the love of God enfolds Laurie, the power of God protects Laurie, the presence of God watches over Laurie. Wherever Laurie is, God is, and all is well." It is the Unity Prayer of Protection. My 18-month-old grandson was run over by a car and he is alive and 23 and healthy....the power of prayer. I'm sure you will be fine. Love, Peggy

A Turley Thank you so much, Peggy! And I'm so happy that your grandson is fine. I absolutely believe in the power of prayer. I have had many answered, especially when I was a child. I give the glory to God and the power, and pray for his presence to all involved. Also trust in His timing. Although my 1st appt. with the cardiologist at CC isn't until 9/7, I've already discovered something about my emotional self that I needed to learn.
So again, thank you for this prayer, Peggy. God Bless you and your family as well.
Love, Laurie

A Turley Thank you so much for commenting, Judy. So far the CC has been excellent in their communication and information. I about lost my spirit the other day when I saw my local cardiologist who didn't want to answer any questions and said he didn't even need to see me. It has taken me a few days, but I decided I wouldn't let him take that positive spirit away from me. Looking forward to getting this taken care of. I'm so thankful for this HeartValveSurgery.com site too where people can share their experience and find such good information. It has helped me tremendously in this journey and I've only just begun! LOL.
But thanks again for your encouraging words. I have concerns because of my lung issues, but you did fine, I can too! :)
So happy you are doing well!
