Sometimes it just seems like it\'s all been a dream...all that we\'ve been through. It really is amazing how much better I feel these days. My newly restored heart function has me able to breathe more freely. That then restores my ability to walk more than a few feet at a time as well as taking the stairs upright as apposed to crawling up the stairs and so on...it IS amazing! You me and John?...we\'re freaking amazing!
Al you sound great!!!! I am also finishing my 36th session on friday and will be a little sad to go. I have absolutely loved it!!!
Keep in touch

If you have the time and inclination I would appreciate hearing a little more detail on your take of CR.
Thanks!

Hi Al Z, great web page set up. Do you still have the pacemaker? And i forget what INR stands for? You have given a great description of your progress but have left out the MOST IMPORTANT information!!! When will you be able to saddle up and RIDE!!!??? Hahaha. I\'m staying in a Ramada Inn apt. In Del Rio TX.until Feb 15 and then plan on moving to San Antonio to further wait out the winter weather and have some repairs done on the Road King (after 100,000m she\'s starting to show her age.) before i start to inch my way North to Alaska. Awesome hill country riding here through wild wild west cowboy towns like, Hondo, Bandera, and Langtry. Temps are usually in the upper 70s to low 50s at night but no rain to speak of. Anyway it\'s been great desert winter riding. Enough about me. Ya know i don\'t want to come across as a wise guy but I\'m surprised you didn\'t choose a Harley Davidson Screamin Eagle valve. Because as you know there\'s NOTHING to compare to the sound of a Harley!! I look forward to the time we can ride together again. I miss you and am lucky to have you for a friend ( i am, right?)
All my love and best wishes for a speedy recovery

Thank you Al for explaining your decision to go with a mechanical valve and for the link to the info on on-x. This is helpful for me. It makes sense to go with a mechanal valve, given your age and the possibility that you might have to go on blood thinners any way. Hopefully the maze procedure has fixed your A-fib.

Al Zebal Hi Chris,
I researched as much as I could about all the different tissue and mechanical valves that are available about a year ago.At that time,I was on the fence about this but, I was leaning a little mechanical I think. One minute I wanted a tissue valve and the next,it was mechanical.I went round and round with this for awhile and it was driving me a little bit crazy. As my symptoms worsened, and surgery was now in sight,I also had to consider what to do about my now cronic a-fib.That added a new dimension to the mix.A-fib is treated with Coumadin and there was not a 100% guarantee that the Maze procedure, that I had, would cure it.So,now I'm thinking,if I choose a tissue valve,I might still be on Coumadin for life anyway and then in the future I'll still need another valve(I'm only 62) . A mechanical valve will outlive me and since I'll probably be on Coumadin for the a-fib anyway,I might as well go mechanical and be "one and done," as they say.My cardiac surgeon agreed and he recommended that I go the mechanical route. Now,I'm back researching the mechanical valves and all the stats etc.I found one that really looked to me like it was superior to the rest.It is the on-x valve. My surgeon was in total agreement with me on this and now we had a game plan in place..The rest is history and I think I made the right choice for me.I'm not overly worried about the long term use of Coumadin and believe that technology is on my side. There are already medicines that are in the pipeline to use for anticoagulation therapy in the near future. Here's a link to that info on my mechanical valve...www.onxlti.com. At the top of the page, click on the "low anticoagulation study" tab and then in the drop down menu, click on" proact video".It's only about 10 minutes and I found it very interesting.Hope this can be of some help to you...
