About Me (In My Own Words)
Paul was diagnosed with congenital mitral valve prolapse in 2008. The symptoms were intermittent and no plans for replacement or repair was imperative.
However, after experiencing an increase in BP along with some chest discomfort and breathing issues, it was time to go back to the doctor.
Paul went to a local NH cardiologist and had more tests done. Since then, he went to a cardiac surgeon in MA where he decided to move forward with a proactive valve repair surgery. He decided upon having a minimally invasive robotic procedure performed at Mass General Hospital on April 16, 2012. Paul will be at the hospital that morning at 5:30 AM, and his surgery should take about 4 hours (or so) using the da Vinci robot. He will stay in the hospital approximately 5 days, depending on how he recuperates; the first 24 hours will be strictly in ICU. After then, he will be moved to a step-down ICU. We will keep everyone posted.
The address for Mass General is 55 Fruit Street, Boston, MA 02114 617-726-2070 for updates at Paul's unit, (Cardiology/Cardiac).
We will keep you posted. Please stay in touch!
