What Causes Aortic and Mitral Heart Valves to Calcify?

Heart valve calcification occurs when calcium deposits gradually build up on the aortic or mitral valve, causing the normally soft valve tissue to become stiff. Over time, this process may contribute to valve stenosis, reduced valve function, and symptoms such as shortness of breath, fatigue, or heart palpitations.
