The Ross Procedure in 2021: What Should You Know?

The Ross Procedure is an advanced form of aortic valve replacement in which the patient's diseased aortic valve is replaced by the patient's own pulmonary valve. Pioneered by Dr. Donald Ross in the 1960s, the Ross Procedure provides patients many benefits (durability, infection resistance, no use of blood thinners) that are sometimes overlooked by the complexity of the procedure. In this video, Dr. Chris Burke, a leading aortic valve surgeon, explains why UW Medicine Heart Institute recently launched a dedicated Ross Procedure Program in Seattle, Washington given the rise in patient interest specific to this two-valve procedure.
