Mitral Valve & Atrial Fibrillation Success Story: Edward Clinton
Edward Clinton, an attorney from Chicago, Illinois, struggled with severe mitral regurgitation and atrial fibrillation (AFib). The day after Christmas, Ed was so short-of-breath he needed to go to the emergency room. Shortly thereafter, Ed required a concomitant heart operation that included both a mitral valve repair and a Maze procedure to treat his AFib. While only 38% of mitral and AFib patients get treated using concomitant procedures, Ed was lucky to have Dr. Patrick McCarthy, the Chief of Cardiac Surgery at Northwestern Medicine, perform his operation. Today, Ed is completely off medications, symptom free, and living his life without any constraints. This video shows Ed's patient journey to a healthy heart. (Video posted on May 5, 2020)
