How great to sleep in your own bed! After long ride in back seat, got home to a wonderful reception from our dogs & dog sitter. Woke up this morning to see all my dwarf fruit trees in full bloom. What a great day. As far as my rehab goes, I\'ll have to be patient, it will be a long haul. But hopefully the gains will be well worth the effort.
When I decided to do this journal, I did it as a convenience to Mickey in order to cut down on the amount of correspondence she would need to do. But the thing turned out to have a few unexpected benefits.
First of all, you got to hear the various style and personalities of my family, as was reflected in their entries. The second surprise was the Theraputic effects of your responses in the guest book.
Every day I would look forward to your encouraging, positive, and humorous responses.
Your posts actually helped me get through this ordeal.
In signing off, I would be remiss if I didn\'t thank my incredible support group. Mickey never left my side and was always there with tender encouraging words. My wonderful children and grandchildren were always there either in person or in spirit to give me the boost I needed to get over the hump.
Thanks again,
Woody
P.S. It was almost worth having the heart surgery, just to see Cleveland\'s Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

Hi everyone! We just took Grampa from the CC to stay at a local hotel for a few nights to be safe. He is very weak, but we got a wheelchair for him and we\'re going to push him around at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame tomorrow. He\'s moved beyond words by your expressions of encouragement and well wishes. We plan to drive him home on Sunday if all is well. This may be our last journal entry. If it is, happy Mother\'s Day to all. Oh and FYI, we had a nice female nurse today. Lol.

I think my dad is starting to turn a corner!
In typical woody malitz fashion, here\'s a story...
He has been very lethargic and hasnt gotten out of bed up until today.
When I arrived this AM, he could barely open his eyes and wasnt speaking. Since he was sleeping so much, mom and I decided to grab a bite downstairs . When we were gone, the physical therapist came to evaluate him. He could hardly get out of bed . She concluded that he was too weak to go home to his house. His case manager came to meet with us and informed us that he would need to go to residential rehab, possibly here in Cleveland before going home. Well, that\'s all he needed to hear to motivate him to get up and walk. You know the Woodman.. He wants to recover in his home, with his stuff and his favorite caregiver, Nurse Mickey.
The Dr\'s came in and suggested he take a stroll. Cue the Rocky theme:
He closed up his gown, put his tennis shoes on and got on the walker and he WAS OFF! The best part, even if it was a short walk, he wasn\'t winded!!! That\'s a great improvement ! Lots of good stuff today!!
Thank you so much for your thoughts, prayers, calls, texts, posts etc. They Give my dad a smile , a boost and the motivation to keep improving !
:)

After a few uncomfortable days in. iCU, Woody has been moved to a regular Cardiac room. He is more comfortable because many of the tubes and devices have been removed.. He wants you to know that at this time he is unable to personally return any of the calls, text, and e-mails that you have sent.
We\'re making progress, slow as it is, but will continue to move forward.
Warm personal regards,
Mickey

Hi All,
We are in a beautiful room with a nice view & a terrific male nurse. I am scheduled for surgery at 7:30 AM. The surgery may take as long as 6 hours. There is also a time delay between when we write a post till you see it . So be patient, you will get an email when I\'m in ICU. Again thanks for all your good wishes.
