How long after surgery until sewing ring fully adheres to heart wall?

Also how long after mechanical aortic and mitral valve replacement until I could travel to our cottage on an island with limited medical facilities but only 10 miles from mainland?

Rita Savelis You can travel once you feel well and up to it. It i hard to predict today how things will go and how you will feel. Every experience is singular and personal. One wants to plan ahead but it's not always possible. Listen to your body and you will know. When I asked my surgeons how long I would be tired, they said: "We can't say". I was happy about that very realistic answer. Anyone who gives you a specific time is not being realistic. Your recovery is your recovery.

Tim Saunders Thanks for the reply's they make sense.What I am wondering specifically is-
1- does the initial attachment of the sewing ring to the heart wall provide the bulk of the adhesion or does the heart “grow”into the sewing ring over time (days/weeks/months) and reduce the concern of separation?
And if so shoul I be staying close to a major hospital or am I over worrying this?

Rita Savelis Gosh, it's probably a minimum of 6 weeks, but you'll have to ask your surgeon about your specific case. You may be over worrying, but if you are over worrying then maybe what you personally need is to be close to a place that makes you feel safe (major hospital). As I said previously ultimately one has to let go of trying to plan ahead because there is so much one cannot control. I didn't want to travel much after OHS not because it was unsafe or I was worried but mainly because I was EXHAUSTED for a long time.
