Hello Community: my mitral and aortic valve replacement surgery is scheduled for June 19th. I was surprised to learn that I’d also have three bypass procedures. Not surprised that there would be a LAA and ablation. I’d be interested in hearing from anyone who have shared this much.

Yumiko Ishida Hi, Sue! I had mitral valve replacement, maze/ablation, and LAA exclusion. I think it’s relatively common to get the maze and LAA exclusion while having a valve replaced. If it’s not common, it should be! Afib is no fun. There are people on this site with multiple valves replaced or repaired and had bypass procedures at the same time. It is better to take care of whatever that needs to be taken care in one surgery, rather than having to go in multiple times. Wishing you a successful surgery and smooth recovery!
