Hi all! I've had mild to moderate mitral regurgitation for a long time now and have been loosely following this forum for a long time now. Well, it seems as though the regurgitation has gone from mild-moderate to moderate -severe which may be underestimated due to something called an eccentric jet which was seen on my most recent echocardiogram. Long story short, I'm having a closer look at my mitral valve via transesophageal echo in about a week. At that time, it will be determined what my next step will be. I feel somewhat informed because of all the time I've spent reading previous patients situations unfold on this very well put together forum! Hoping for a good outcome!!

Robert Miller I am going to be blunt but based on what you describe you will need surgery. "Jets" at the edge are harder to see in an echo so it's a good thing you get a TEE. It will give more details. In any case, your history shows things got worse. The thing is that when you have regurgitation your body /heart/vessels try to compensate for it but that puts the body/heart/vessels in a worse state. So if the doctors determine that eventually you will need surgery then do it sooner than later. Good luck!!!

Richard Munson Good luck with the tee which will no doubt pinpoint your mitral valve leaks more accurately. Jets is a new term to me but after reading up on the term it seems that you might still be a candidate for repair not replace depending on location. Worth the discussion with your surgeon of choice.
