Well 10 years ago I was diagnosed with endocarditis. It required the replacement of the aortic valve at the age of 50 years old. I have been told by my cardiologist after several echocardiograms and a TEE along with a stress test that the bovine valve is leaking. He says it needs to be replaced. My last appointment was in February. He wants me to see him again on May 1. What is your feeling on what type of valve to go with now? And it sounds that this second surgery is as complicated as the first one due to the present valve has started to calcify. Need some advice and anybody else having this similar situation and concerns.

Rose Madura Hi Patrick. It is definitely a vert personal decision. I had a bovine valve at age 59 about 9 months ago. They last longer now so I'm hoping I never have to have another replacement. But if I do, I'm hoping they can do the TAVR on me. Definitely discuss the pros and cons with your cardiologist and your surgeon. Best wishes. Keep us posted.

Mark Wilbur If I was as close to Cleveland as you are, I would try to get an appointment at the Cleveland Clinic, especially if there's concern about competency. Good luck!
