Hi All - My dad had heart valve surgery almost two years ago at Duke Hospital. He had his mitral valve repaired and aortic valve replaced. He also had the Maze Procedure. Around a month after surgery he developed atrial fibrillation and had to get a cardioversion. Now 21 months later he has developed atrial fibrillation again and is currently in the hospital. Unfortunately, his heart rate is only temporarily responding to the medications, so they are planning to do another cardioversion tomorrow.
Has anyone else experienced atrial fibrillation months or years after surgery? We are so surprised that this is happening, because other than the A-fib a month after, he has felt so healthy since the surgery. Would love to hear other's experiences and any advice. Thanks!
