Hi, I was diagnosed with Mitral valve regurgitation my cardiologist referred me to DR. Aqib Gowany for a Mitral Clip procedure I don't see him in the list of doctors in my area I live in Orlando Florida. Does anyone knows Dr. Gowany? Or should I go with Dr. Kevin Accola which is recommended here.

Robert Miller You should always get at least two opinions if time allows. So my recommendation would be that you visit both surgeons. Come up with dedicated questions that you jot down on a piece of paper before visiting. Sometimes, a smaller hospital might be better because you have a less known surgeon but he does the surgery him/herself. For bigshots, it is often "apprentices" that doe the surgery, of course supervised by the "big shot". Also, check the learning center on this website to come up with questions. If you have a person that can come with to the appointment to take notes and possibly ask other questions, do so. This kind of interviewing process made all the difference to me.

Susan Lynn Javiee - Unless you have some other condition that makes surgery too risky, you may want to opt for a surgical repair. The MitraClip is relatively new and you look pretty young. I'm not sure there's info on long-term success. If you're looking for another opinion, you may want to consider Dr. Lamelas. He's known for minimally-invasive valve repairs. Good luck! https://doctors.umiamihealth.org/provider/joseph-lamelas/867364

Susan Lynn Javier - Believe me, none of us wanted surgery, but you're making a decision that will affect the rest of your life. My surgery was performed through a 3 inch incision on the side of my chest. There wasn't a sternum cut or the trauma of a bone healing afterward. Consider all of the options and the long term results. Best of luck. Please keep us posted on how you're doing.

Javier Sakamoto Thank you Robert and Susan . I was watching the interview with Dr. Gillinov about Robotic Mitral valve repair where they do 3 or 4 incision on the side and it is a very safe procedure. I am thinking about going to Cleveland. I also find out in Orland at the Orlando Health they do have Robotic procedures but looks like they started this procedure in 2022.
